My Story
Megan Solea
My story begins in 2016 with my first pregnancy. I, like many other young women, did not see the importance of childbirth education. I was all set with the stories of my mother and grandmother. But, times had changed and hospital births along with them.
The birth of my daughter was a scary, rushed affair. I felt as though I had no control over the situation. My daughter was born perfectly healthy via unnecessary Cesarean. Afterwards, I suffered from Postpartum Depression. I was unable to enjoy my newborn and my new role as her mother.
A few years later, when I discovered that I was pregnant with my second child, I knew that I could not let history repeat itself. I found Peak Midwifery out of Sulphur, Louisiana. With Carissa's help I was able to have the birth I wanted, a completely unmedicated homebirth, in which, everything went at my speed and my baby never left my sight. I gave birth to my son in the comfort of my Uncle's house in Texas. (It is illegal for a midwife to assist a VBAC at home in Louisiana.)

That experience not only made me a better mother to both of my children, it gave me a confidence I had never known before. It opened my eyes to the fact that many women don't get to experience this, and I decided to help.

Before the birth of my son, Carissa, at Peak Midwifery, suggested that I educate myself on natural childbirth through reading and taking a childbirth education class. The books were great, but the class was short and very far away.
So, I became the person I needed when I was younger. By becoming a certified childbirth educator and birth doula, I can now provide the families of Southwest Louisiana with education and support to better prepare for their births.

I am truly honored to be a part of your journey. I hope that you have a magical birth experience that leaves you feeling like the strong, brave, and beautiful person you are.
