Mother and baby in autumn

My Story

Megan Solea

My story begins in 2016 with my first pregnancy. I, like many other young women, did not see the importance of childbirth education. I was all set with the stories of my mother and grandmother but, times had changed.

The birth of my daughter was a scary, rushed affair. I felt as though I had no control over the situation. Afterwards, I suffered from Postpartum Depression. I was unable to enjoy my newborn and my new role as her mother.

A few years later, when I discovered that I was pregnant with my second child, I knew that I could not let history repeat itself. With the help of a local midwife, I was able to have the birth I wanted, a completely unmedicated homebirth, in which, everything went at my speed and my baby never left my sight.

That experience not only made me a better mother to both of my children, it gave me a confidence I had never known before. It opened my eyes to the fact that many women don't get to experience this, and I decided to help.

Before the birth of my son, Carissa, at Peak Midwifery, suggested that I educate myself on natural childbirth through reading and taking a childbirth education class. The books were great, but the class was short and very far away.

So, I became the person I needed when I was younger. By becoming a certified childbirth educator and birth doula, I can now provide the families of Southwest Louisiana with education and support to better prepare for their births.

I am truly honored to be a part of your journey. I hope that you have a magical birth experience that leaves you feeling like the strong, brave, and beautiful person you are.
